This role is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the campground site, guests and staff. We are looking for 2 physically active persons (either 1 couple or 2 separate applicants) to work in a 220 site campground in beautiful Salmo, BC. Included in the contract is a campsite, the Camp Host/s must provide a self-contained camping unit and are required to reside on-site for the operating season. We are looking for applicants who will bring a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility in committing to be part of a team that wants to experience living, working and playing in an outdoor paradise.
What kind of work is required?
Host #1 Duties include guest registration and reservations using a web-based occupancy system and responding to in-person and phone inquiries about the campground and recreational activities in the area. You will handle both cash and credit card transactions and conduct an end-of-day reconciliation. You will be expected to multi-task in this busy environment all the while being welcoming and genuine in your guest interactions.
Host #2 will be primarily assigned to maintenance duties. This is a physically demanding position requiring walking, overhead lifting, carrying weights up to 50 lbs, reaching high/low, pulling / pushing, and climbing ladders. You can expect to rake, sweep, paint, wash, cut grass and trim branches, repair broken items, lift/carry supplies, move picnic tables and fire pits, collect and sort recyclables, among other activities.
Both hosts can expect to clean toilets, showers, sinks and mirrors, wash floors, pick up trash and recyclables, rake sites, and empty fire pits. You can expect to carry bundles of firewood. You will direct incoming campers in their vehicles / trailers. Either individual or both will conduct night patrols after the PM quiet hour to ensure guests are being respectful to their neighbours. A shared responsibility of all campground staff is being vigilant to ensure guests are not damaging property or the natural environment.

-Ability to work constantly with guests offering a high degree if helpfulness, tact and professionalism
-Detail-oriented, client-focused, excellent decision making, problem solving, take responsibility and effective communication are required.
-Customer service (area and activity recommendations, rules and regulations and assistance to guests whenever needed)
-Perform ground maintenance work around the campground such as litter pick up, recycling & stocking of restrooms.
-Be observant for activities within the campground requiring immediate attention
-Keep track of occupied campsites
-Direct campers to vacant sites
-Cutting grass around campground and landscaping
-Collecting and managing money and receipts
-Booking sites by phone and email
-Report any maintenance items which need immediate attention
-Campground security & vandalism control including securing the entrance gate. Keep a written report of complaints and criticism, report situations that could affect the health and safety of visitors
-Compliance (drive by checks to make sure campers have paid and are complying with rules and regulations)
-Loading and Selling Firewood/Ice
-Strong public relations and guest service skills required, must be able to be assertive while maintaining a friendly manner
-Cash handling experience
-Ability to keep organized and detailed records regarding campground usage, maintenance requirements, etc.
-Strong interpersonal skills to establish good working relationships with manager and co-workers
-Previous experience working in an outdoor environment and the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
-Strong time management skills
-Ability to work well under pressure in a high-volume environment
-Resourceful and able to work independently in remote locations
-Basic handy person skills are required
-Must have self Initiative and be a go-getter
-Must be willing to work mornings, evenings, and weekends
-Must be able to work outdoors in any weather conditions.
-Must be able to lift 50lbs
-Must be able to walk up to 5km per day
-Continuously bending, lifting, carrying of materials
-Standing up to 8 or more hours per day
-Must hold a valid driver’s license and clean drivers abstract
-Current First Aid Certification an asset
-Camping experience preferred
