Position Overview: The Event and Concessions Manager, under the direction of the Operations Manager, will support the operational, administrative and supervisory functions in the events and venue operations at the ACT Arts Centre, including hiring, training scheduling and management of event personnel and pre-scheduled volunteers; bar /concession management; servicing rental clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Oversees the development, implementation and execution of Bar/Concessions sales and inventory (menu updates, featured specials, product development, sales targets, etc), including inventory purchases, entry into inventory tracking system (Yellowdog), and generating monthly sales inventory reports.
•Hires, schedules and supervises the work of part-time event staff engaged in event services activities and delivery of concession services , ensuring venue staff provide quality service to patrons.
•Serve as the Manager on Duty for selected events shifts for front of house volunteer staff (FOH), concession staff and other FOH staff
•Responsible for on-site event compliance with Event policies procedures and service standards, adhering to Worksafe BC, BC Liquor Control and Licensing Act, City of Maple Ridge and Fraser Health legislation or other governmental offices
•Reviews and approves staff time-sheets in accordance with policies.
•Oversee the delivery of ACT Presents artist hospitality services in accordance with artist riders.
•Contributes to the department budget development and oversees the concession tracking to budget targets, growth, and planning.
•Ensure all meeting and event stakeholders are provided with a point of contact for all inquiries and needs during events.
•Ensures accurate financial reporting and submission of department stakeholder charges, accurate cash controls, daily reporting and cost of sales receipts
•Meet with rental clients immediately prior to events to reconfirm final attendance, schedule and other last-minute requirements, if any, communicating changes to other departments, as required
•Builds and maintains working relationships to deliver excellent hospitality and customer service to patrons and rental clients;
•Other related duties projects or tasks required by the Operations Manager
•Post-secondary studies with a focus on theatre management; hospitality or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
•3+ years experience in food and beverage operations
• Experience hiring, training and managing staff
• Beer, spirit, wine and food knowledge
• Experience with point of sale and inventory software
• Valid Serving it Right Certification and Food Safe certification
•Ability to plan, and supervise, part-time event staff and volunteers in a fast paced environment
•Superior customer service and communication skills
•Highly organized team player with highly developed interpersonal skills; thrives on multi-tasking
•Must be able to work a flexible workweek including evenings and weekends
•Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time
•Proficiency using MS Office 365 -Word, Excel, Outlook.
•Familiarity with Worksafe BC policies and practices
•Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment with a diverse population and with all levels of staff and volunteers
•Demonstrated strong administrative and organizational skills
•Detailed oriented – highly organized, superior time management, exceptional attention to detail
•Creative –a high degree of creativity and interest in food and beverage (wine, cocktails), and maximizing revenues for the centre
•Ability to focus and remain calm and level-headed in a fast-paced work environment
•Commitment to superior customer and client service
Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:
•Serving lt Right Certification
•Food Safe Certification
•First Aid- Level 1
•BC Driver's License an asset
•A Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required (employer will reimburse for required certifications and checks upon receipt)
Assets and Preferences:
•Experience with food and beverage inventory management systems. - Yellow Dog
•Experience with point-of-sale systems – Square
•Familiarity with Event Pro or other scheduling software an asset
