Reports to: Program Manager, Future Science Leaders

Future Science Leaders is an in-person multi-year program for students who excel in science and technology. This position relates to the second of three possible years in the program.
Position Description:
As a Teaching and Laboratory Assistant in Future Science Leaders, you will perform duties to support both classroom and laboratory learning in the Year 1 and Year 2 programs, as well as help to create an engaging and positive learning space.
This position requires an approachable, organized, and self-motivated individual who can observe needs and step in to assist. No previous experience is necessary as a teaching or laboratory assistant. You should also have a strong interest in STEM learning. You must be capable of working as part of a team and managing your own time.
The position is from September 2022 to the end of May 2023, working 10 hours a week, with a three-week Winter break, and a two-week break in mid-March. You will provide in-session support during the Year 1 program on Tuesday evenings and the Year 2 Research program on Thursdays. The hours can be flexible if discussed and agreed upon ahead of time.
Responsibilities:
· Attend the Discover (Year 1) program sessions on Tuesdays from 3pm-9pm (6 hours). Two sessions run consecutively from 4pm-6pm and 6:30pm-8:30pm
· Attend Innovate (Year 2 Research) sessions on Thursdays from 4:30pm-8:30pm (4 hours)
· As a teaching assistant you and the program leads are responsible for attendance, welcoming students into the building, helping facilitate classroom activities such as distributing supplies, offering guidance to students, as well as documenting sessions through photography
· As a laboratory assistant you work with the program leads to prepare materials for laboratory activities, clean and maintain an orderly work environment, and model correct procedures to students when appropriate
