Position: Summer Camps Program Supervisor
Location: Windsure Adventure Watersports at Jericho Beach, Vancouver BC
Duration: May 1, 2023 – September 5, 2023 (seasonal)
Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week: Monday to Friday 8:30am-5pm (30 minute unpaid lunch)
Compensation: $3250/month

What you’ll do:
We are looking for a Summer Camps Supervisor to help lead our fun-filled summer camp programs! Offering youth programming every week from June-September, this position works within the leadership team to ensure that the day-to-day operations of summer camp programs run smoothly. May to late June will allow preparation and planning time, as well as an opportunity to assist in other areas of operation (lessons, rentals). During camps, Summer Camps Supervisor will work closely with the General Manager and Beach Hut Supervisors to ensure that rental and lesson operations may operate concurrently with the summer camps. Our goal as a summer camps team is to instill within youth a passion for watersports, the outdoors and activity through fun and safe experiences before, on, and off the water.
This is an in-person full-time, seasonal position running from May to September 2023, based in Vancouver.
Some examples of the daily tasks of the Summer Camps Program Supervisor would include:
Communicate with General Manager & Beach Hut Supervisor regularly with regards to inventory and space requirements, as well as safety and overall operations
Help to develop and lead training for all summer camp staff
Scheduling team members and managing schedule change requests
Lead team huddles twice daily (morning and afternoon camps) to provide updates, set goals and communicate expectations with all camp staff
Ensure that employees are on time and prepared for the day of camp ahead, including being up-to-date on safety procedures and all required training
Logistically plan group locations and activities based on weather and skill level
Create and execute (when needed) a rainy-day plan – this may include developing learning material, activities and coordinate dry/warm space
Develop and disseminate summer camp program curriculums
Work with instructors to check, organize and sanitize equipment when it comes off the water
When needed, teach summer camp programming in windsurfing, skimboard and/or stand-up paddling in a safe, and friendly manner (substitute when staff are sick)
When needed, assist with instructing our other lessons
Respond to emergency situations, as needed
Continuously educate on and uphold COVID-19 protocols to both team members and summer camp participants
Provide feedback to instructors on teaching methods to further to support students’ further learning and engagement
Act as the ultimate liaison between Windsure and parents/ children for summer camp programs
Lead summer camp weekly registration and daily sign-in/ sign-out
Organize, coordinate and lead the Windsure Volunteer Program, including training
Carry out various administrative tasks related to overarching summer camp operations, ex. completing reports, answering emails, taking calls, connecting with community partners
In May and June, the following responsibilities may also be included:
Deliver exceptional customer service and coordinating equipment rentals and lesson facilitation in a safe, timely, professional and friendly manner. This may include sizing for and preparing equipment, providing assistance over the phone or in person, processing and verifying registrations/ payments using a cloud-based booking system or POS system
Maintain an accurate understanding of the flow of rental customers and their needs, assisted by booking & resource management system
Support the overarching needs of lessons, rentals and other staff on water and land through communication between these teams and with respective supervisors
Teaching windsurfing, skimboarding and stand-up paddling
Teach our afterschool programs Mondays and Thursdays 4pm-6pm

Have experience using organizational tools like Gmail, Google Drive, Asana
What we’re looking for:
Education and/or experience in the outdoor recreation and tourism industry
Experience leading a team of 5+ people in a recreation context, specifically youth ● Passion for and experience teaching windsurfing, skimboarding and SUP
Experience using cloud-based booking software
Able to lift and carry minimum 50 lbs
Pleasure Craft Operating Card (PCOC) or willingness to get it
Valid First Aid Training (OFA Level 1 or Equivalent) or willingness to get it
Valid Criminal Record Check or willingness to get one
Able to work in Canada
Fully vaccinated
