Sunshine Coast Tourism is now accepting applications for Summer Tourism/Visitor Information Counsellors in both Sechelt and Gibsons! We offer flexible schedules, a fun, casual work environment, and training certifications.
The Sechelt and Gibsons Visitor Centres offer a wide range of visitor services including professional visitor counselling, helpful travel information, literature and accommodation recommendations to over 22,000 visitors each year. We offer these services at the brick and mortar locations as well as via our Mobile Visitor Services programs.
New this year! Mobile Visitor Services: In Sechelt, using the hybrid-electric Jeep and in Gibsons using the mobile e-bike kiosk, throughout the summer, Counsellors will attend events and visitor “hot spots” to meet and greet visitors where they are and provide them with visitor info services. Counsellors will be supplied with maps and information to hand out.
The Visitor Services team works together to maximize the economic benefit of tourism by promoting tourism products and services.
Visitor Information Counsellors are responsible for providing on-site, online, and mobile visitor services, ensuring the effective delivery of travel information to visitors with the goal to extend their length of stay, support the local tourism economy, and support a remarkable travel experience in the region. Counsellors achieve this by identifying visitors’ needs, offering information, and selling tourism products and services.
Provide friendly, professional, and knowledgeable information to visitors regarding destinations, attractions, accommodation, tourism businesses and services, including options and costs and reservations assistance in person, online, by phone, and/or mail
Develop a strong knowledge of Sunshine Coast Tourism’s stakeholders and key marketing messages to best promote and sell their products and services
Provide mobile visitor services at local events and festivals throughout the season as required
Distribute promotional materials and maintain inventory as required
Gather and record accurate visitor statistics as per Destination BC and Sunshine Coast Tourism’s standards
Stock and sell retail merchandise and handle financial transactions via POS technology
Comply with professional dress code and follow all Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety Plan, and protocols for the Visitor Centre
Participate in staff meetings, training, presentations, and other sessions as required
Other duties as assigned
Training: Counsellors will receive Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor Training, a mandatory online provincial certification training program as well as in-house local knowledge training. Counsellors will also receive mentoring on how to proactively reach out and connect with travellers via email and phone to answer their questions and direct them to the many tourism experiences the Sunshine Coast has to offer.

Sunshine Coast Tourism (SCT) is a non-profit association, specifically a destination marketing organization (DMO). Our job is to promote the entire region of the Sunshine Coast (from Howe Sound to Desolation Sound!) as a fantastic travel destination to the rest of the world. As a non-profit organization, we are led by a volunteer Board of Directors and four full time staff, plus more than 200 members encompassing all facets of businesses within the tourism industry spanning the entire Sunshine Coast. We create bold, inspiring, and engaging marketing campaigns that inspire visitors to plan their trip, and we work diligently to create brand awareness and advocacy for the Sunshine Coast, BC as a travel destination. As a non-profit, we are supported by our membership, local and provincial government who all see the value in the tourism economy and our ability to unite together to market the Sunshine Coast in a way that no one business could achieve individually.
