About the position
The primary responsibilities of this position are to supervise the day-to-day operations of the Vancouver Island Visitor Centre (including various mobile kiosks) to ensure Visitor Services Network requirements and standards are met. This includes coordinating the on-site building services, and supervising staff and volunteers to develop and maintain relationships with the tourism and hospitality businesses of the Comox Valley, as well as the community and ancillary organizations that contribute to the region’s economic development.
Train, schedule and supervise the visitor centre staff and volunteers to ensure the high-quality visitor experience;
Implement and supervise visitor service retail systems and work to grow retail revenue opportunities;
Help facilitate visitor services and programs by working closely with relevant stakeholders to deliver high quality visitor experiences;
Coordinate project timelines and budget allocations;
Support in the delivery of all funder and internal reporting requirements;
If required and at the request of the Manager, Visitor Services, prepare and deliver handouts and presentations for effective consultation and stakeholder relations.
What we are looking for
Post secondary degree in a relevant field such as Tourism Management or Business Administration or relevant experience;
Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor (TVIC) Certificate is an asset;
A minimum of 1-2 years experience in a supervisory role;
Related experience in marketing, building maintenance and coordinating maintenance contractors;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Positive interpersonal skills with the ability to develop collaborative and respectful relationships;
An ability to manage multiple competing priorities with a high degree of organization;
A preference for working in a team environment with a great deal of flexibility and self management;
High degree of sensitivity in dealing with the public, staff, board, government officials and stakeholders;
In-depth knowledge of the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island;
Able to travel in the Comox Valley and work flexible hours as required;
Travel on Vancouver Island is required, evening and weekend work may be required;
A valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle

As part of this contract each region administers the Tourism Partner Program (funding) for their respective region. Through the Tourism Partner Program, Tourism Vancouver Island is able to offer tourism stakeholders within the region the opportunity to participate in marketing initiatives at greatly reduced costs.
