What you’ll do:
We are looking for watersport Instructors to join our energetic and outdoor-loving team! Are you hooked on one or more of our sports and itching to share that passion with the world? Working at Windsure could be your perfect seasonal gig!
For windsurfing, this position will teach our introductory Discover Windsurfing I & II programs, running Wednesday-Sunday weekly. There is also an opportunity to run or help run workshops on various intermediate/ advanced topics (harness, footstraps, shortboard, foiling, tricks) as well as teach private lessons. Paddleboarding and skimboarding instructors will teach paddleboarding introductory group lessons as well as semi-private and private lessons. Based on how much you want to teach, we have casual, part-time and full-time opportunities available!
Some examples of tasks of the Instructor role would include: Prepare class lesson plan (could be a group lesson, private, or semi-private)
Prepare equipment needed for the lesson equipment taking into account student ability, age, weight and height
Facilitate instructor and student introductions
Introduce basic wind geometry and demonstrate concepts interactively by using dryland simulator (windsurfing only)
Oversee wetsuit and life jacket fittings
Teach and revise safety components of the lesson including: self rescue demo, boundaries and other hazards such as tide, current, and weather predictions
Help students clean and put away the equipment at the end of the lesson
Debrief students on points of learning, including areas to concentrate on for future development
Inform students about further lesson/rental and season’s pass options open to them after the lesson
You’re a good fit if you:
Love being outside and active, especially on the water
Know how to create memorable learning experiences
Are proficient in one or more of our watersports (the more, the better)
Are seeking a role to grow your coaching skills
Have an understanding and/or curiosity of race, gender, BIPOC, LGBTQ2SIA+ and climate justice issues and are committed to creating safe community spaces
What we need:
Teaching/ coaching experience with within watersports
Communication & teamwork skills
Able to lift and carry minimum 50 lbs
Watersport Instruction Certifications (ex. Paddle Canada, ISSA, IWA, CanSail etc.) are a bonus!
Pleasure Craft Operating Card (PCOC) or willingness to get it
Valid First Aid Training (OFA Level 1 or Equivalent) or willingness to get it
Valid Criminal Record Check or willingness to get one
Able to work in Canada
