Job Description

Role Summary

Do you love sharing local knowledge and meeting people from all over the world? We are looking for people passionate about Golden to be Visitor Information Counsellors.

Reporting to the Destination Services Manager, the role of a Visitor Information Counsellor is to enhance the visitor experience. Through conversation, you will get to know our visitors and help them find the activities or services within town that best suit their needs and interests.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Accountabilities

  • Welcome all visitors to the Golden Visitor Centre in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Provide accurate and relevant information tailored to each visitor’s needs and interests.
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in person.
  • Promote local tourism products, services, and events to encourage longer stays in the community.
  • Proactively gather and share information about events, local history, and points of interest.
  • Accurately record visitor data for reporting purposes.
  • Process payments for national park passes, attraction tickets, maps, and retail items.
  • Restock shelves and maintain brochure and retail inventory as needed.
  • Keep files and reference materials up to date.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful work environment.
  • Complete the required Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor (TVIC) Training (Visitor Services Basics, Superhost Foundations of Service Quality, and Service for All) within one month of joining.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience in customer service.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence in using electronic devices such as desktop computers, iPads, and payment processing software (training provided).
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to maintain a professional dress code and grooming standards.
  • Ability to speak a second language (French, German, Spanish, or others) is an asset.
  • Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems is an advantage.
  • Valid First Aid and/or AED certification is considered an asset.
  • For foreign candidates: A valid Canadian Open Work Permit is required.

Position Type & Hours

This is a seasonal position starting in mid-May 2025. The role may be part-time or full-time, with a minimum of 15 hours and up to 37.5 hours per week between May and September.

Work location: in-person. Some travel may be required.

Working Conditions

This position requires availability on weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays, as the Visitor Centre operates daily. While scheduling is primarily based on operational needs, we aim to accommodate staff availability whenever possible. The role also requires standing for extended periods and bending and lifting. Some travel may be required.

Salary/Wage

19.50 per hour
