Job Description

The Big White Ski & Board School is looking for experienced GAP and Staff Trainers and certified instructors, with preference given to candidates holding their CASI Evaluator certification (Level 1 or higher). If you aspire to be a part of a strong team of Ski and Snowboard trainers, we want you to join our team for the 2024-2025 winter season. Depending on business needs, this seasonal, full-time position works up to five or more days per week.

Trainers will be responsible for providing training on the following Ski & Board programs:
1. GAP training program. Our GAP programs run from mid-January to the third week of March, Monday to Friday. Being assigned to this program, the trainer’s day consists of up to seven (7) hours per day. When training the GAP program, the role is to teach the participants using the CASI methodology for teaching and snowboarding to the standard required to complete the CASI Level 1 and 2 courses.
2. In-house Staff training for Big White Ski & Board School Snowboard Instructors. The Ski & Board School’s in-house training program runs throughout the season, six days a week, and includes training sessions, mentorship, and lesson shadowing. Training sessions aim to improve the product that our instructors deliver to our clients. We focus on developing our instructors’ teaching and riding capabilities so that our clients get the best lesson possible.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities include:
• Teaching Adult & Kids snowboard lessons in group and private settings using the CASI teaching methodology and following Big White Ski & Board School’s progression levels.
• Teaching clients and demonstrating quality lessons relevant to the ability level of your students
• Evaluating lesson participants and completing achievement records where necessary
• Always working with safety in mind to safeguard guests and fellow workers
• Planning lesson content to create a safe and fun learning experience
• Evaluating instructors’ lessons where scheduled, providing written and verbal feedback for staff evaluations
• Ensuring effective public relations and problem-solving as required
• Working cooperatively and maintaining ongoing communication with other program trainers and Ski & Board School Staff
• Working with the Technical Director to aid in the development and improvement of the training program
• Taking appropriate action to deal with incidents and emergencies, as outlined in the Ski & Board School’s policies and procedures
• Attending all paid training sessions
• Acting as a role model for the Ski & Board School instructors and fostering an approachable, open level of communication
• Assisting with promoting Ski & Board School programs
Position requirements:
• Minimum CASI Level 1 course conductor
• Previous experience training staff or GAP participants in a Ski & Board School environment
• Have and will attend evaluator training as required by CASI
• Three or more seasons of previous snowboard instructing experience working in organized settings are definite assets
