About The Role
Are you passionate about tourism and engaging with clients? Do you have a desire to promote Richmond, BC as a business events destination? If so, this role is for you. As the Sales Associate, Business Events at Tourism Richmond, you will play a pivotal role in securing business events, working closely with our partners to deliver immediate results. The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, adept at building relationships, action and detail-oriented, and committed to excellence. Reporting to the Director of Marketing& Business Development, this role proactively identifies strategic opportunities to drive sales and position Richmond as a premier destination.

This is a full-time, permanent hybrid position that requires in-office work at least three times per week. Some overtime and after-hours work may be required. The salary range is $58,000-$65,000.

What You Will Be Doing
• Develop and implement sales strategies to generate future business for hotels, venues and partners in Richmond This includes promoting Richmond as a premier business events destination through tactics such as trade shows, sales calls, and client site visits.
• Cultivate relationships with meeting planners, travel managers, associations and other key groups in priority markets to attract business to Richmond.
• Generate new lead (RFP) opportunities through effective sales strategies and tactics.
• Handle requests for proposals (RFPs), including preparation, distribution, and timely client communications ensuring Richmond is well-positioned to secure business. This includes completing Bid Books for the client and related follow-up communications.
• Foster productive relationships and serve as a liaison between clients, hotels, venues and partners in Richmond.
• Travel for industry trade shows, sales missions, and other events throughout the year.
• Manage assigned project, travel and tradeshow budget(s), including tracking, reporting, and updating.

What You Will Bring
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
• 3-5 years’ experience within a sales or events team, preferably in tourism, hospitality, or a similar field.
• Open and approachable with the ability to build productive relationships with team members, stakeholders, partners, and clients.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and complete work independently and efficiently.
• A valid Driver’s License is an asset.
