Job Description

Whistler Sliding Centre is a world-class bobsleigh, skeleton and luge facility located above Whistler Village on the side of Blackcomb Mountain. True to its mission to grow sport, the venue is not only used for training and competition by athletes from beginner to world class level, but it is also the only place in Canada where public can try bobsleigh and skeleton to slide like an Olympian with no experience required.

Facility Operations Worker, under the direction of the Mechanic / Supervisor, Snow Removal, executes the maintenance of roads, pathways, and general snow removal as well as provide event support at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

Winter season 2024/2025 commences October 21 for: Casual, Part Time, or Full Time role – requires ability to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Operate heavy equipment and plow trucks in a safe and responsible manner including installation of snow chains as weather conditions require
• Safe operation of trucks and all terrain type vehicles for transporting athletes, guests, and/or equipment
• Assist with moving sleds and equipment
• Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority requirements are met
• Identify, document, and mitigate safety hazards
• Carry out minor repairs and maintenance work
• Ensure safe access to and around venues is maintained
• Maintain detailed machinery records
• Perform daily machine checks
• Manual snow clearing in and around buildings and structures
• Ice Maintenance support
• Set-up and tear down for facility bookings and events
• Identify and report any equipment or infrastructure damage
• Machinery use for shipping and receiving purposes as instructed
• Vehicle fueling and other operational tasks as required
• Maintain inventory, tools and work areas
• Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM: All Interactions Matter
• Assist the team with other duties as assigned or required

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
• Minimum 1-3 years experience in machine operations and maintenance required
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and abstract may be required
• Previous snow removal experience in a mountain environment preferred
• Hands on knowledge of servicing and maintaining heavy equipment and attachments preferred

Skills
• Use of small equipment and hand tools; including snow blowers, drills, and saws
• Ability to successfully complete competency assessments on all required equipment
• Attention to detail and safety conscious in all aspects of the job
• Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and
• Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements
• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to regularly lift 50lbs

Salary/Wage

$25.00 to $27.50/hour
