About You / What We Are Looking For
Reporting to the Manager, Tourism & Visitor Economy, this exciting leadership position will be responsible for stakeholder engagement, relationship building, customer service, sales, marketing and promotion that is conducted in support of the City’s major community led Signature Events and Corporate Partners. You will work collaboratively with community organizations, and facilitate consultative processes with various community and government stakeholders, so strong written and verbal communication will be key. You will be preparing administrative documents, grants, reports, and administering budgets. You will direct the work of staff and be developing policies, procedures and guidelines related to the work. Responsibilities & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated understanding of sponsorship trends, partnership marketing, and corporate philanthropy
• Awareness of local community and corporate landscape to identify potential sponsors
• Knowledge of branding, audience engagement strategies and value-driven marketing principles
• Strong event planning experience including logistics, timelines, and stakeholder management and working with Community-led festivals and events
• Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures related to the planning, development, promotion, marketing and implementation of sponsorship programs, event activation management, tourism initiatives, stakeholder engagement and outreach strategies and other economic development programs.
• Ability to plan, assign, review and supervise the work of subordinates engaged in sponsorship sales, marketing, tourism initiatives, activations and community led event engagement.
• Ability to act as project lead in soliciting funding from corporate partners for City events and programs.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a passion for building and maintaining relationships
• Proven experience in sponsorship acquisition (2+ years), fundraising, sales, or account management
• A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is a requirement for this position
Preferred Qualifications
• Completion of a post-secondary degree in marketing, communications, recreation administration, sponsorship and fundraising, event management, event marketing or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Municipal experience in events and Corporate Sponsorship
• Experience working with community festivals, events or non-profit organizations
• Experience in Account and Stakeholder Relationship building
The ideal candidate for this position will be a team leader who has experience developing strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders in a Municipal Environment, with strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. You will possess outstanding service excellence, sales and negotiation skills, with a track record of developing and executing strategies to secure corporate sponsorships. You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills for creating compelling proposals and engaging with sponsors.
You are self-motivated, goal oriented, and work collaboratively to in a complex stakeholder environment. Considerable independent judgement, action, creative problem-solving and initiative are exercised within established guidelines while unusual issues are discussed with a superior who reviews work performance for the attainment of desired goals and objectives. These attributes will be matched with a post-secondary degree, diploma, certificate or courses in special events and sponsorship, as well as related experience in leading projects. What We Offer: This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $42.44 - $50.12 (2024 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
