Job Description

Whistler Athletes’ Centre, located in Whistler’s Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood, provides comfortable nightly and long-term accommodation for athletes, teams, sport clubs and other groups looking for affordable accommodation in Whistler. True to its mission to grow sport, no other accommodation facility in Whistler provides the level of accessibility and amenities for athletes of all sports, close to key training and competition venues in the Sea to Sky region.

Assistant Manager, Whistler Athletes’ Centre is responsible for ensuring seamless and safe daily operations while motivating the team in the delivery of exceptional service where All Interactions Matter (AIM). Role is organized, approachable, and possesses excellent communication skills to carry out day-to-day functions including training, scheduling, guest related operations, issue resolution, cash handling, daily reporting, and assists with general sales support. Regular Salary Full Time position requires flexibility to assist the team with other activities or initiatives including working evenings and weekends as required.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Business and Operational Deliverables – Guest Services
• Schedule, delegate, train and support Guest Service and Housekeeping colleagues
• Ensure daily scheduling is within labour budgets and report irregularities to Manager and Managing Director
• Oversee daily operations including:
o Resolve all guest concerns, complaints or suggestions in a continuous effort to provide an exceptional guest experience, and act as a Whistler ambassador
o Administer individual guest and group reservations
o Provide high level of guest service including being courteous, helpful, knowledgeable and informative
o Liaise with the catering team / guests to produce meal schedules and approve changes when needed
o Assist with general sales support
o Support housekeeping/lodge operations and deliverables
• Assist Manager with:
o Guest, colleague, and tenant accommodations
o Monthly inspection of colleague accommodations
o Communication, follow up and resolution of any issues pertaining to accommodations
• Take an innovative approach to improving and streamlining processes as needed
• Perform landscaping, groundskeeping, and facility maintenance duties as assigned
• Assist team with other duties as assigned or needed

Team Management
• Responsible for assisting team management according to established HR procedures, with emphasis on the following areas:
o Assist Manager with recruitment & selection
o Orientation & ongoing role and venue training and development
o Performance management and conflict resolution
o Succession planning
o Consistent communication through regular feedback and daily conversations including important and time-sensitive operational and organizational information

Leadership and Culture
• Champion all WSL policies, procedures, and contribute to the development of WAC policies and procedures
• Adhere to all operational and safety procedures
• Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with HR and JOHS to ensure all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met; ensure a strong relationship exists between the venue and the regulatory bodies and that all certification requirements are and continue to be met within the functional area
• Consistently deliver professional, friendly and engaging guest service
• Respond, react quickly and rectify guest concerns including documentation and notifying relevant departments for action
• Liaise and cross-share information with WAC teams including necessary maintenance items
• Positive representative of Whistler Sport Legacies, both internally and externally
• Take personal accountability/responsibility for actions & initiative to creative solutions for problems/issues
• Activation and participation in employee events and engagement activities
• Lead by example by modeling WSL values behaviors

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
• 2-3 years’ experience in customer service role (preference for hotel/lodge experience)
• Previous supervisory experience required with the ability to train a team
• Cash handling experience
• Satisfactory RCMP Criminal Record Check required annually
• Related tourism/hospitality diploma or degree from recognized college or university an asset
• First Aid certificate and WHMIS training an asset
• Knowledge of pest management, basic lawn maintenance and fertilizers an asset
• Ability to work evenings and weekends is required

Skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
• Strong computer skills with particular strength in data base, scheduling, reservation system software
• Strong organizational skills are required
• Proven leadership skills, resourceful, entrepreneurial, and quick evaluation and decision making
• Keen and can-do attitude
• Ability to perform in high pressure, multi-tasking environments
• Flexible and adaptable to work efficiently in variety of settings and to work weekends and evenings
• Proven ability to work alone as well as with a team
• Ability to operate maintenance equipment in a landscaping or groundskeeping environment
• Takes personal accountability/responsibility for actions; initiative to find creative solutions to problems or issues
• A willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
• A passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements
• Ability to:
o Stand for long periods of time
o Lift up to 50 lbs
o Perform physical work including kneeling, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling including housekeeping carts
o Ascend or descend ladders, stairs and ramps

Salary/Wage

$54,080.00 per year plus benefits - dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications
