CONTROLLER

Position Summary
Reporting to the General Manager, you are responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the
business. This covers the maintenance of a sufficient system of accounting records and generation of
periodic financial reports. You will also be responsible for assisting in the development of budgets and
controls intended to enhance the precision of reported financial outcomes, mitigate and control risks,
and ensure that reported results comply with Accounting for Small Business Enterprises. You will engage
in all aspects of financial administration, such as budget and forecasts preparation, corporate
accounting, oversight of payroll, working within internal control policies and procedures, and regulatory
and financial reporting

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Controller Job Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide leadership, supervision, and performance management to all departmental staff, including
orientation, coaching, 1:1s, goal setting, workload prioritisation, etc.
• In conjunction with the Employee Experience department, recruit staff against approved vacancies,
with in-person participation for all senior departmental roles.
• Assist with the orientation and training of new departmental staff, and ongoing training and
development of existing staff. Oversee the development of individual goals and performance plans
as required.
• Ensure all relevant and required policies and procedures are in place, communicated, understood,
and adhered to.
• Assure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions across all aspects of the resort’s
operations.
• Manage the accuracy and productivity of all day-to-day financial activities.
• Develop, improve, and issue monthly and ad hoc financial records for senior management, including
report to corporate head office in Vancouver.
• Ensure that financial plans align with organizational goals.
• Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects.
• Manage the resort’s commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource
under highly competitive terms.
• Actively participate in influencing business growth, direction, product development, strategic
planning, financial forecasting, and acquisition integration, including providing advice on the same to
the senior management team.
• Work closely with senior management to develop an economic evaluation of various fringe benefit
programs for staff and program components.
• Act as the primary interface with banks and lessors, outside audit firms, liability and casualty
insurance agents, collection agencies, and credit card companies.
• Provide leadership and guidance on behalf of Finance to all staff and departments.
• Ensure all staff are fully trained in emergency procedures.

Controller Qualifications and Skills
• 10+ years of relevant, focused, and progressively responsible experience and training.
• Proven senior leadership skills. Competent and confident operational and strategic manager.
• Ability to accurately interpret and analyze business periodicals, technical procedures and
professional journals.
• CPA license is preferred.
• Effective presentation skills on complex topics to top management.
• Ability to respond effectively to complaints and sensitive inquiries in a timely and audienceappropriate manner.
• Superior written and oral communication skills. Able to prepare audience-appropriate reports,
presentations, etc.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to set priorities for self and
others.
• Proficient with computers, including with all aspects of the Microsoft Suite.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with a creative and innovative approach. Willing to think outside of
the box, embrace change, and dive into new challenges
