A ride operator is charged with the safe operation of rides at amusement parks, fairs and festivals. As a ride operator, one must be constantly alert in order to monitor both the ride’s operation and patrons’ behaviours. Ride operators also maintain the upbeat, fun environment of the attraction, which adds to the enjoyment of participants.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and safety inspections on ride
  • Maintain a clean and safe space in and around ride
  • Collect tickets and operate ride
  • Ensure the safety and enjoyment of all ride passengers
  • May need to supply on-board narration

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good communication skills
  • Be tactful and diplomatic
  • Mechanical ability
  • Customer service experience
  • Knowledge of general safety procedures
  • Knowledge of the attraction and local area
  • Secondary school diploma is preferred
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency response courses are recommended
  • Knowledge of the National Occupational Entry Level Skills Standards is an asset.
