Capilano University is nestled on the beautiful North Shore of Vancouver. We proudly offer the Bachelor of Tourism Management degree, and seek passionate industry leaders to instruct the up-and-coming stars of the tourism indusry. Here’s a little bit about our degree:
The four- year degree Bachelor of Tourism Management degree provides students with the skills, knowledge and experience to move into managerial roles that make an impact within the businesses they work. Their courses demand more from them as the focus is on developing an advanced set of skills in critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, all of which are in demand from today’s top employers along with:
- Valuable work experience through your summer co-operative work term
- Opportunities like the Student Case Competition help you network and develop industry connections
- Study abroad options in your 3rd year
- Work on real-time projects for industry in your 3rd and 4th years
We are the only public post-secondary institution in the lower mainland that offers a Bachelor of Tourism Management and now, students can specialize their degree even further with two concentration options:
Hotel and Resort Concentration
Students select this option as part of the degree if they are interested in developing their careers within hotels or resort environments. Whether they want to work in a more urban setting, tourism destination or an all-inclusive, these courses provide specific skills and knowledge in the management and decision-making required in this highly competitive field.
Courses were developed through extensive consultation with our industry friends and focus on the interrelationship of departments, stakeholders and suppliers. Graduates work in a variety of roles including front desk, operations, rooms, sales, conference services and food & beverage.
Adventure Concentration
Selecting this option as part of their degree, these students are interested in developing their careers with outdoor tourism operations. Courses focus on activities as part of the vacation experience. The development of appropriate activity programming, sporting events, and using adventure tourism as catalyst for community based tourism are just a few of the skills and knowledge required for this complex industry.
Graduates work in a variety of positions including group sales, front office, activity programming, and community development.
