About Us
Hatley Park National Historic Site, home of Royal Roads University, is a breath-taking 565 acre Edwardian estate with a diverse eco-system, wildlife, an unusual mix of growing conditions ranging from mature conifer forest to Garry Oak meadows to wetland. It features hundreds of heritage trees significant for their size, rarity and diversity. The 250-year old Douglas firs are among the largest in the area.
Complementing this exquisite environment is Hatley Castle, a majestic 40-room castle with 10 formal gardens and a view over looking the Juan de Fuca Strait.
The site is home to Royal Roads University and its new Department of Tourism and Outreach. Royal Roads is a special purpose university that offers an array of applied and professional educational programs. Unlike traditional universities that follow a semester system or distance learning model, RRU champions a blended learning approach that combines exceptional, two to three week residencies, followed by Internet based distance learning.
