MERLIN AIR is a new regional aviation company based at Pemberton-Whistler Regional Airport [CYPS], 25 minutes from Whistler Resort. The airline will focus on providing service to and from eleven other airports within an hour or less of flight time from Pemberton – connecting Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, Vancouver South and the Fraser Valley – directly to Pemberton-Whistler. Custom charter and scheduled service will provide access to the Pemberton-Whistler area by over 75% of British Columbia’s population. Not just transportation – these flights will showcase some of the most spectacular scenery in the world over the Howe Sound and up the Harrison-Lillooet Lake and throughout this region.
Merlin Air will offer safe, convenient “concierge-level” service and provide a number of specialty aviation services such as: flight-seeing, glacier events, forestry and resource aviation needs, cargo, aerial photography and film crews to business travellers, tourists and local clientele.
Merlin Air is a privately funded company whose founders and principals have resided in Whistler and Pemberton for the past 9 years. Merlin Air anticipates creating 12 to 18 jobs in the next 2 years; and will generate $2 to $5 million annually in economic benefits to the Sea-to-Sky region. Merlin Air has a full-service facility – heated hanger, offices, reception, passenger areas, aviation fuel and personnel and is gearing up to be in start-up operation in June and full service operations by fall of 2010, flying Navaho and Chieftain twin engine aircraft with capacities of 6 to 8 passengers.
