Located in Victoria’s elegant Rockland quarter, the classically designed Villa Marco Polo Inn has an Italianate garden and 4 beautifully appointed suites. Built in 1923 as a gift to a young bride, the inn resembles an Italian Renaissance mansion. Today it remains popular for special vacations, weddings and honeymoons. The bedrooms, named Silk Road Suite, Zanzibar Suite, Persia Suite and Alexandria Suite, feature double soaker tubs, romantic fireplaces, fine linens, hardwood floors with Persian carpets, and comfortable beds. Fresh flowers fill the rooms, which are tastefully decorated with antiques and fine art from proprietors’ family collections. Guests can schedule a range of spa treatments in the Penthouse Spa Hamaam that overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Peninsula. Sumptuous gourmet breakfasts featuring locally grown produce are served in the dining room or in the sunny Italian ‘Orangerie.’ Vegan, gluten-free, or vegetarian meals are available upon request. In the afternoons, guests can enjoy tea and sherry either in the tranquil gardens or in front of the fire in the wood-paneled library. The inn is located minutes from downtown Victoria and the city’s beautiful Inner Harbour. Innkeeper Liam Morton will arrange fine dining experiences for guests, as well as activities such as whale watching, sailing, paddling, golf, and tours of local vineyards and the Gulf Islands. It is a short walk to historic Craigdarroch Castle and to the beautiful park-like gardens of Government House.
