Krista Frasz, HR Manager, and Cathy Greene, Housekeeping Manager, from Predator Ridge Resort recently worked closely with the Vernon and District Association for Community Living (VDACL) to form a strategic partnership focused on providing local employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.
The VDACL, otherwise known as Venture Training, is a non-profit organization located in Vernon, BC that advocates on behalf of and provides social, educational and vocational skill building services for people with developmental disabilities.
Prior to the initiative starting in April 2019, Frasz worked closely with Venture Training for a number of months to identify their participants’ interests, skills and abilities in order to determine positions that would best meet both their needs as well as the staffing needs of the resort. As a result, Predator Ridge has welcomed a group of 6-8 participants (rotating in teams of three to four) who are working in variety of housekeeping positions for approximately 20 hours per week. Their supervisor Vanessa Burnett, Therapeutic Vocational Support Worker with Venture Training, also travels and works with the team on-site.
The range of tasks the participants perform will vary, depending on how quickly they adapt and the Housekeeping Manager will be working with the participants and Vanessa to keep them engaged and help them build new skills.
The Predator Ridge team takes great pride in working with Venture Training to welcome the participants to their team. This initiative is helping the resort diversify their team, build upon their inclusive culture and bring empathy into the workplace.
