Job Description

Whistler Sliding Centre is a world-class bobsleigh, skeleton and luge facility located above Whistler Village on the side of Blackcomb Mountain. True to its mission to grow sport, the venue is not only used for training and competition by athletes from beginner to world class level, but it is also the only place in Canada where public can try bobsleigh and skeleton to slide like an Olympian with no experience required.

Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Compliance / Supervisor, Track Safety the First Aid Attendant responsibilities include a wide range of duties including on venue First Aid, incident investigations, risk management, track maintenance, signage management, public relations, pathway watch, opening and closing of venue, and WSC venue evacuations. Position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Winter season 2024/2025 commences October 14 for: Casual, Part Time, or Full Time role – requires ability to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Provide first aid and accident site control according to the TMR manual or as prescribed by the leadership at the site for all on and off track needs
• Document and report all on track incidents and safety violations
• Participate in emergency scenario training as prescribed
• Carry out hazard identification and mitigation to ensure venue is safe for all guests and workforce
• Provide assistance with on-track maintenance and program support as required by the Whistler Sliding Centre team
• Interact in a responsible and friendly manner with all visitors, athletes and coaches on a daily basis
• Facilitate public and sport programs (Bobsleigh and Skeleton Sport Experience).
Duties include, but are not limited to:
o Gather and process participant information and waivers
o Equipment safety inspections, e.g., helmets
o Lead program safety presentation
o Maintain radio communications with Control Tower
o Shuttle/walk participants to start and return
o Safely unload sled into ready position
o Safely load guests into sled
o Recap safety components and final check of guest equipment and comfort level
o Assist pilots at Finish Dock, and assist guests to unload safely
o Safely load sled onto truck
o Set up and operate camera for guest photos
• Daily preparation, repairs and maintenance of the Track sliding surface including: shoveling, sweeping, spritzing, slushing, and scraping
• Execute Track clearances, identify and report safety hazards
• Set and maintain Track shading systems as needed
• Maintain safe access to public areas by participating in snow removal duties as required
• Sled transportation (driving)
• Facilitate public and sport programming on the Track
• Foster a strong culture of health and safety; work with Human Resources, and Safety to ensure that all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met
• Support all WSL departments in the execution of WSC programs including domestic and international competitions
• Adhere to all operational and safety procedures including wearing PPE’s when required including ‘creepers’ while on-ice
• Assist in general up-keep of the Whistler Sliding Centre and support WSL departments in the execution of WSC programs including domestic and international competitions
• Assist with the execution of special events as required

• Assist team with other duties as assigned or required

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license required
• Current OFA Level 3 or equivalent certification such as Canadian National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care required
• Satisfactory criminal record check is mandatory prior to commencement of employment
• Physical labour experience required including attention to detail
• Guest Service experience required
• 3 plus years of Ski Patrol experience preferred
• General knowledge of the Whistler Sliding Centre venue, and the sports of Bobsleigh, Luge, Skeleton, as well as high performance training an asset

Skills
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills: written and oral
• Organizational, computer and adaptive skills
• Safety conscious to ensure safety of guests, athletes, staff
• Willingness to assist other team members (at times outside of the department) as needed and requested
• Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Languages
• Fluency in English required

Physical Requirements
• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to regularly lift 50lbs

Salary/Wage

22.50 to $27.00 per hour
