Whistler Olympic Park
Whistler Olympic Park is a world-class destination for outdoor recreation activities and Nordic sports, located just south of Whistler in the stunning Callaghan Valley. Established for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the Park’s incredible facilities are now enjoyed by both high-performance athletes and recreational guests alike.

Groomer Operator at Whistler Olympic Park ensures that every visitor to one of North America’s preeminent Cross Country Ski facilities has a chance to ski like an Olympian. The trail design and weather conditions of the Callaghan Valley provide an ideal challenge for the experienced operator to expand their skills and learn something new every day.

Responsible for the day-to-day grooming and snow management of Whistler Olympic Park’s trail network and snow play areas to create an optimum experience for guests of all levels. The safe and careful operation of a modern fleet of Pisten Bully and Prinoth snow cats as well as snowmobile grooming equipment is required. Seasonal full time role requires the flexibility to work weekends and nights.

Note: If successful candidate has equipment operator experience, a dual role may be available as a back-to-back (summer and winter season) full time role

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Reporting to the Supervisor, Trails and Roads, work with other Groomer Operators to ensure optimum day-to-day grooming and maintenance of trail network terrain
• Create high quality trail conditions for guests of all levels
• Operation of grooming machinery including snow cat, snowmobile, and winch cat in a safe and responsible manner
• Ensure ski trails, ski jumps and play areas are clear of hazards and have a safe and high quality surface
• Assist mechanic(s) to troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns when needed
• Maintain grooming machinery and records
• Operation of winch cat on ski jump landing hills and surrounds when required
• Perform daily machine checks including pre start-up inspections, shut-down and post operational procedures including documentation regarding machine maintenance per established protocols
• Adhere to all safety, operating and maintenance procedures
• Demonstrate ability to follow directions and work in small groups or alone when required
• Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ AIM philosophy: All Interactions Matter
• Interact with volunteers to ensure their inclusion in department team
• Assist the team and other departments with other duties as assigned or required

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
• Experience operating heavy equipment / farm machinery
• Experience operating snowmobiles and snowcats an asset
• Competitive Cross Country Skiing background or experience an asset
• Knowledge of radio protocol
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and abstract required
• Reliable winter transportation (WOP is not serviced by transit)

Physical Requirements
• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather winter conditions performing physically demanding tasks
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to regularly lift 50lbs

Salary/Wage

26.00 to $28.50 per hour
