Job Description
Saint St. Grill in Port Moody, BC is seeking a passionate and skilled Jr. Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Executive Chef and ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen. This position requires a strong understanding of food preparation, kitchen management, and the ability to supervise kitchen staff effectively. Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities
• Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items
• Estimate labour costs
• Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory
• Analyze operating costs and other data
• Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
• Supervise activities of specialist chefs, chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers
• Collaborate with the Executive Chef in menu planning and development
• Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food
• Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for events such as banquets
• Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff
• Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions
• Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods
• Requisition food and kitchen supplies
• Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
• Consult with clients regarding weddings, banquets and specialty functions
• Plan and direct food preparation and cooking activities of several restaurants
• Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards
• Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
• Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area.
Skills
• Strong background in kitchen operations and food service.
• Experience supervising staff in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Knowledge of food handling practices and safety regulations.
• Proficiency in various cooking techniques and food preparation methods.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills for effective teamwork within the kitchen.
• A passion for culinary arts and commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences.
Requirements:
• At least 3 years to less than 5 years experience in a restaurant setting.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
• Medical Exam and Criminal Record Check are required
