Location: We are seeking an experienced Lead Bartender (Casual) for our Vancouver Convention Centre operation.
Sodexo Live! is the Official Supplier of Food and Beverage Services to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility hosts more than 500 events and welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the Province.
Principal Function:
The Lead Bartender takes a leadership role among fellow bartenders in providing fast and efficient service to customers. They will assist supervisors and follow Sodexo Live! standards to ensure that product is of the highest quality in taste and appearance to satisfy guests and maximize bar revenues.
The Lead Bartender will actively participate in the preparation, set-up, service, break-down and cleanup of catered functions. Their highest priorities will be to support overall profitability and guest satisfaction by ensuring that the team provides exceptional customer service while maintaining Sodexo Live!’s standards for safety, cleanliness, and sanitation.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Essential Responsibilities:
– Lead and support employees in providing outstanding service to all guests and delegating tasks as required; which may include overseeing the set-up and stocking of all bars prior to an event including, ensuring bars are placed in appropriate locations according to event requirements and supervision of employees.
– Assist Managers and Supervisors in training and motivating a professional team of Servers according to our service excellence standards.
– Promote positive team relations with Servers, Bartenders, other department teams and management.
– Assist in ensuring proper procedures are followed for all bars when reporting requisitions, transfers, bar sheets.
– Control and supervise any additional supplies being taken to bars from bar cage or liquor room area.
– Communicate with Beverage employees before each event so that everyone is operating with the same information regarding hours, pricing, type of payment (hosted or ticket), etc.
– Ensure that all bars and supplies such as alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages, mixers, cups, and utensils are returned, accounted for and stored properly.
– Complete and submit all consumption sheets accurately and neatly for all bars. May aide with inventory as requested.
– Follow all local and provincial guidelines for responsible alcoholic beverage service; Check identification of guests to verify age requirements for consumption of alcohol.
– Ensure bar equipment is operational and stored correctly.
– Monitor staffing levels in order to ensure labor cost is managed effectively and communicate relevant changes to employee time and attendance.
– Ensure employees follow all Provincial and local guidelines for responsible alcohol service; Check identification of guests to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol; including cash handling, liquor control, food safe standards and procedures, as well as WorkSafe BC regulations.
– Ensure all areas are locked at closing time, including the storage and cleanliness of bar equipment.
– Participate in and foster positive team relations with wait staff, fellow bartenders, servers and management.
– Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required from time to time.
– Contribute to goal of 100% customer satisfaction through personal commitment to teamwork and service.
Qualifications/Skills:
– Must be 19 years or older to serve alcohol.
– 2+ years’ experience in a lead or supervisory role with a focus in F&B. Experience in leading and directing the activities of employees and training is an asset.
– Previous alcohol/beverage experience and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
– Serving it Right Certificate required and must be 19 years or older to serve alcohol.
– College Diploma or higher in Hospitality/Hotel Management is strongly preferred.
– Knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits and familiarity with standard drink recipes.
– Proficient English communication skills in order to effectively interact verbally and listen attentively to co-workers and supervisors.
– Scheduling flexibility to meet operational needs.
– Exceptional focus on service excellence and ability to connect easily with guests.
– Strong team orientation and ability to work with a variety of departments to accomplish assigned tasks, as well as ability to work independently.
– Ability to work well in a high-volume, fast paced environment.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift. Must be able to frequently lift and carry food and other items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally greater. Must be able to go from warm to cold climates (workstation to coolers).
Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
Salary/Wage
$24.50 - $26.50 per hour.
