Job Description

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge is a prestigious, Three MICHELIN Keys adventure-based luxury lodge located on the remote west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. CWL offers all-inclusive stays for three, four, and seven-night packages during which guests can choose from any one of a number of adventure experiences, in addition to spa- and 5-star dining experiences.

Duties:
Currently, Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic, conservation-minded individual to fill the seasonal full-time position of Sightseeing Boat Operator tentatively scheduled between May 1 and Sept. 30, 2025. Duties for this ecotourism position include, but are not limited to: competent operation of various vessels (≤12m, ≤5T); refuelling; boat and boat equipment maintenance and repair; cleaning and provisioning of vessel(s); marina/groundskeeping; staff and provisions transport; and luggage handling.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Requirements:
The energetic applicant must have all mandatory certifications including a minimum of SVOP, SVD-BS, ROC-M and Marine Basic First Aid (or their equivalents) in addition to extensive coastal boating experience in all weather and sea conditions. A basic understanding of boat mechanics and the ability to effectively troubleshoot are invaluable skills while operating in remote areas and in the absence of readily available assistance. Working on and around boats is physically demanding and necessitates both dexterity and intuition.

Additional Information:
Refined interpersonal skills are essential due to a high level of guest-oriented care, that is the ability to communicate effectively and in a manner that is engaging, entertaining and inspiring all the while ensuring the safety and comfort of guests. Describing points of interest, answering questions and providing accurate information are key components of the job. Situational awareness and the ability to assess and respond to guest needs and interests are imperative. Geological, cultural and natural interpretation of the Pacific Northwest with an emphasis on bear, otter and whale physiology and ecology is necessary.

The ideal candidate will possess professional interpretive skills as pertaining to the natural, geological and cultural history of coastal British Columbia and an awareness of contemporary issues as they pertain to coastal BC. Graduates with majors in biology, environmental education, natural resources or other related fields are preferred.

An appreciation and willingness to co-exist within our wild, natural surroundings as well as respectful cohesion and active participation within our diverse community is critical.
