Job Description

Whistler Sliding Centre is a world-class bobsleigh, skeleton and luge facility located above Whistler Village on the side of Blackcomb Mountain. True to its mission to grow sport, the venue is not only used for training and competition by athletes from beginner to world class level, but it is also the only place in Canada where public can try bobsleigh and skeleton to slide like an Olympian with no experience required.

Track Worker executes the safe and efficient operation of the Bobsleigh, Skeleton and Luge Track at Whistler Sliding Centre. Under the direction of the Senior Supervisor, Track Operations / Lead, Track Operations, this role is responsible for all preparation, repairs and maintenance of the track.

Winter season 2024/2025 commences October 15 for: Casual, Part Time, or Full Time role – requires ability to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities
• Daily preparation, repairs and maintenance of the Track sliding surface including: shoveling, sweeping, spritzing, slushing, and scraping
• Execute Track clearances, identify and report safety hazards
• Set and maintain Track shading systems as needed
• Maintain safe access to public areas by participating in manual snow removal as needed
• Repair Track systems as directed
• Sled transportation (driving):
o Safe operation of trucks and all terrain type vehicles for transporting athletes, guests, and/or equipment
o Assist with moving sleds and equipment
o Assist with snow removal to ensure safe access to all areas
o Perform daily machine checks including pre start up inspections, shut down and post operational procedures including documentation regarding machine maintenance per established protocols
• Facilitate Track public and sport programming; including domestic and international competitions as well as special events
• Greet visitors (athletes, coaches, public), and assist them to register for the product/service of their choice (e.g. assist athletes with sign-in process; assist the general public with the purchase of appropriate tour and/or ride products)
• Deliver orientation sessions for athletes and public programs (both in the Guest Services building and track-side when assisting with the delivery of public tours and rides)
• Support WSL departments including guest services to facilitate sport and public programs (Bobsleigh and Skeleton Sport Experience). Duties include, but are not limited to:
o Gather and process participant information and waivers
o Equipment safety inspections, e.g., helmets
o Lead program safety presentation
o Shuttle/walk participants to start and return
o Safely unload sled into ready position
o Safely load guests into sled
o Recap safety components and final check of guest equipment and comfort level
o Assist pilots at Finish Dock, and assist guests to unload safely
o Set up and operate camera for guest photos
• Adhere to all operational and safety procedures including, radio protocol and wearing PPE when required; including ‘creepers’ while on-ice
• Assist in general up-keep of all areas, including the daily set up of equipment and displays indoors and outdoors
• Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all Work Safe BC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Guest Service experience required
• Strong mechanical aptitude required
• Relevant trade experience in the following trades preferred:
o Carpentry
o Drywall
o Welding
o Refrigeration
• Manual labour experience with finishing detail preferred
• General knowledge of Whistler Sliding Centre venue, and Bobsleigh, Luge, Skeleton sports, and high performance training an asset
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license an asset

Skills
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills: written and oral
• Organizational, computer and adaptive skills
• Safety conscious to ensure safety of guests, athletes, staff
• Willingness to assist other team members (at times outside of the department) as needed and requested
• Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Languages
• Fluency in English required

Physical Requirements
• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to regularly lift 50lbs

Salary/Wage

$21.00 to $25.00 per hour
