The days ahead will be difficult for our industry. There is no question that travel restrictions and other provincial health orders are designed to keep people safe and for our industry, realize a summer. We can’t help but empathize with the long period of uncertainty that our industry and workers have experienced. You have and continue to all be amazing advocates the industry.
While I personally tend to lean towards optimism, pragmatism might be the better attitude suited to cope with this week. I applaud those in government and industry who worked thoughtfully and collaboratively to keep us all safe. I am encouraged by the ongoing vaccine rollout across the province.
go2HR continues to develop resources and tools for our industry to help recover. We’ve got an active COVID-19 safety plan review service in place. Our team can assist with evaluating a business’s plan or help create one, if businesses are opening up for the first time since COVID-19 hit. We also have an upcoming webinar on May 5, Navigating Recruiting and Hiring of International Workers in the Age of COVID-19, to support future recruitment activities.
As you know, we’re working aggressively on a new COVID-19 safety certificate program BSAFE, which stands for BC Safety Assured for Everyone., This training will ensure foundational health and safety knowledge across the BC tourism and hospitality industry to increase worker, guest and community confidence during recovery. This week’s step back in restrictions crystallizes how important this initiative is to restarting and recovering our once vibrant industry. We are aiming for mid-May launch and businesses can preregister now for immediate access when BSAFE – BC Safety Assured For Everyone goes live. Watch for an official launch and announcement next month.
